After a nightmare about her father, Scully receives a package from an anonymous source, a copy of Moby Dick with all references to the narrator, ‘Ishmael’, cut out. Scully is badly shaken because of the book’s association to her late father: her nickname was ‘Starbuck’ and his was ‘Ahab’, and ‘Ishmael’ refers to the child he fathered from a secret affair with a woman in Saigon at the end of the Vietnam War. Scully pays a visit to her stepbrother, Tam Minh Nguyen, who is currently in Hazelton Penitentiary, West Virginia, but he denies all knowledge of her or the book. Unknown to Scully, there is someone else involved – a fanatic obsessed with Dana, whose involvement brings death…
