Victorian London, 1868: the notorious murderer, ‘Spring-Heeled Jack’ – otherwise known as ‘Jack the Ripper' – claims his third victim… The present: at the A.R.C., Matt asks Abby to break into Connor’s lab to find out about his confidential work for Philip; however, before she can decide, they are interrupted by an alert from the Anomaly Detector. Hearing the siren from inside his lab Connor makes to leave too, but then April persuades him to stay and continue his work on ‘New Dawn’; Connor is close to creating an artificial anomaly, and April is under secret orders from Philip to ensure his success, no matter what... Arriving at the art gallery where the new anomaly has appeared, Matt, Abby and Captain Becker search the premises for signs of an incursion; they quickly come under attack from a vicious velociraptor, but Becker manages to lure the creature back through the anomaly. However, their success is short-lived: a scrap of newspaper wafts back through, dating from 1868 and reporting the murders of ‘Spring-Heeled Jack’ – the team have sent the raptor to Victorian London, where it is responsible for the Ripper murders! Resolving to put things right, Matt follows the creature through the portal; tracking the raptor to an old warehouse, Matt is about to shoot it when a woman dressed in a mask and hooded cape steps in the way, inadvertently allowing the creature to escape. Matt is furious – until the woman reveals herself to be Emily Marchent! Unfortunately their happy reunion is interrupted by the arrival of Emily’s husband, Lord Henry; accusing his wife of adultery Henry drags her into a waiting hansom cab, leaving his henchman to deal with Matt. Embarrassed by his wife’s apparent flights of fancy, Henry instructs the cabbie to take them to the Bedlam lunatic asylum so that he can have Emily committed; but as the cab sets off, the velociraptor jumps onto its roof and kills the driver – the cab goes wildly out of control and then crashes…
