Heroes or villains? Things are not always black and white in the dystopia ruled by the ruthless Federation. The crew of the Liberator are passionate in their opposition to the injustice and corruption of the government, but this group of convicts and outcasts aren’t exactly angels themselves… Whether it’s a large scale rescue mission, or a simple act of kindness, these stories explore an important question: what really makes a hero?

'Separate'

On the trail of a colony of scientists and engineers who have fled from Earth, Blake and Cally teleport down to the planet Whyway. Here they elicit the help of a local scavenger named Jale – but can she be trusted…?

'Dominator'

Blake and his crew track down a Federation Deep Space Station in the Metaxis Sector, used for the mothballing of ageing and obsolete starships, with which they plan to use to create a resistance fleet. But what they find is far deadlier than they were expecting: a super-sophisticated warship designated the Dominator, specially designed to destroy the Liberator…

Arriving at the Planet Kalthos they meet with Commander Nessa Rainnis in an abandoned colony base; but Rainnis is really out for revenge, holding Blake responsible for the murder of her daughter…

'Contagion'

Zen picks up a distress call beamed directly at Liberator from the planetoid Malorbis, home of a group of scientists that have distanced themselves from the Federation. Teleporting into the deserted research base, Tarrant, Avon and Cally make a horrifying discovery: the powerful computer virus that the scientists were developing has mutated into affecting human cells – and now the three of them are infected…
